Patricia Apollonia Kotero has been an actress and model in America for many years. She is best known as the star of the 1984 Prince Purple Rain film and lead vocalist in the girl group Apollonia 6 The actor and singer named Apollonia by Prince was one of many female artists in the '80s that benefited from her connection with the Purple One. Patricia Kotero is a Californian actress born in Santa Monica, California in 1959. Her beginnings included acting as a model for television. In 1984 she landed the title of female lead of Prince's Purple Rain (during which time the singer changed her name) and replaced Vanity as a member of the female group Vanity 6 which performed in the film under the name Apollonia 6. Sex Shooter, the group's minor smash hit from the soundtrack was her greatest chart hit. Kotero's association with Prince was ended after the two disagreed on the direction she was taking in her career. Apollonia 6, the group that she belonged to had a split. She went on to appear in various minor roles throughout this time (reportedly not wanting to be in The Purple Rain follow-up Under the Cherry Moon) prior to landing an appearance on the evening-time drama Falcon Crest during 1985-1986. Apollonia made her debut album in 1988, but her comparatively tame collection of songs that incorporated dance/R&B did not impress the music-buying public and soon the album vanished off the shelves. She remained active (if somewhat under the radar) in the role of actress throughout the decade that followed, with a few film roles on television as well as releasing videos for exercises.
